HOT SPRINGS — Despite strong outings from Clay Malatare (14 points), Jaylen Ducharme (13 points) and Byron Carpentier (11 points), the Two Eagle River School boys basketball team fell on Friday to Hot Springs 64-48.

The Eagles kept things close in the first quarter, trailing just 20-14 headed into the second period.

However, a 16-6 Savage Heat scoring advantage in the second quarter would prove to be too much to overcome for the Eagles, who matched Hot Springs with 28 second-half points.

In addition to the points scored by Malatare, Ducharme and Carpentier, Two Eagle also found scoring from Tyler Mongran (four), Youstas Eneas (four) and Dante McDougall (two).

Hot Springs was led by Dave Cross’ game-high 24 points, but also had 14 points from Wyatt Nagy.

GIRLS

HOT SPRINGS — The Two Eagle River School girls basketball team just couldn’t keep up with Hot Springs on Friday, falling 48-23.

The Eagles scored just 12 points through the first three quarters, nearly matching that total in the final frame, when they dropped 11.

The Savage Heat, meanwhile, jumped out to a 20-4 first-quarter lead and cruised to victory.

Tyra Michel led Two Eagle with nine points, followed closely by Ruby Saluskan with seven. Daryl Conko-Camel notched five points for the Eagles and Misty Mendoza chipped in two.

Alyssa Foster came away with a game-high 12 points for the Savage Heat, while Josie Carr added 10 points of her own.
