COEUR d'ALENE - Kootenai County officials have resorted to legal action to get a property owner to clean up junk accumulating on two lots she owns in the Sunnyside Road area east of Coeur d'Alene, according to court documents.

Sandra L. Milligan has accumulated multiple unlicensed vehicles, junk boats, a travel trailer, abandoned and broken equipment, scrap wood and metal, tires, bags of clothes and other "rubbish" and "garbage" at 6631 N. Templin Trail, 1st District Court documents said.

"Milligan has been using the subject property or has allowed or suffered the subject property to be used as a junkyard," the documents, filed Dec. 12, said.

Civil deputy prosecuting attorney Patrick Braden couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

A phone number for Milligan at her Coeur d'Alene residence on 20th Street was disconnected so she couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

The county said that Milligan's property has continued to cause "irreparable damage and injury," and county officials have no adequate legal remedy.

The county sent Milligan multiple notices to clean up the junk, informing her she was in violation of both building and zoning ordinances.

The county is asking a judge to issue a mandatory injunction requiring Milligan to remove all materials on the property other than those "customarily used in connection with the operation of a single-family residence," according to documents.

No court dates have been scheduled. The case was assigned to Judge Barry Watson.
