Students compete in NIC speech contest

Five North Idaho College students out of the 600 students taking speech class this fall semester earned cash prizes in the Communication, Fine Arts, and Humanities Division's speech contest held on NIC's campus Friday, Dec. 14.

Winners included:

1st Place - $150: Elliny Hiebert, of Coeur d'Alene, for "Pay for Your Future:" Money spent on college and making good choices.

2nd Place - $125: Marcos Lavrador, of Post Falls, for "A Failed War:" Legalize drug use under government regulations.

3rd Place - $100: Amy Musch, of Post Falls, for "Where's the Beets?:" Pros of growing your own garden for good health.

4th Place - $75: Paige Momerak, of Coeur d'Alene, for "Beware, Be Aware:" Being alert in your environment for safety.

5th Place - $50: Ann Michelle Ciampini, of Fort Bragg, Calif., for "Crash Course to Go Gluten Free."
