Whitefish Mountain Resort officials say Chair 7 will reopen to skiers on Sunday.

The electric motor of the high-speed quad chair lift servicing the northside terrain on Big Mountain broke down Friday afternoon, leaving the resort without one of its most popular lifts during the busy Christmas week.

Spokeswoman Riley Polumbus said mechanics aren’t sure why the motor stopped working.

The resort ran 12 other lifts Saturday, including Chairs 4 and 5, in an effort to disperse the holiday crowds.

Chair 7 was installed in 1997 and services popular intermediate slopes like Whitetail and Goat Haunt, and black diamond slopes such at Marmot and Black Bear.
