COEUR d'ALENE - As 6-foot-6 junior post Kyle Guice goes, so do the Lake City Timberwolves.
He definitely went forward Friday, scoring a game-high 21 points as the Timberwolves defeated the Wilson Rams 60-51 to advance to tonight's championship game of the inaugural Lake City Invitational.
"We get a ton of energy from him," Lake City coach Jim Winger said. "I thought we had a size advantage against them and the kids did a good job of getting him the ball."
Lake City (7-2) will face Garfield of Seattle in the championship game after the Bulldogs defeated the Puyallup Vikings 56-51 in the other semifinal.
"We're looking forward to playing them," Winger said. "They're a really good team."
Lake City 60, Wilson 51: Riley Moreen added 14 points for Lake City, which outscored the Rams 33-24 in the second half.
"Early on, when they were pressing us, we weren't running our stuff," Winger said. "It didn't hurt us, but we talked about what we wanted to do at halftime and came out and executed and took them out of some stuff."
Alphonso Anderson scored 16 points for Wilson.
"We played well today," Winger said. "If we would have made some free throws, we would have played really well, but the kids came to play today. We played good defense and it was a good night for us."
