MOSES LAKE - The Grant County Health District wants people to know it's not too late to get an influenza vaccination.

February has seen the highest concentration of flue cases for the past 35 years, according to the health district.

It takes people's bodies about two weeks to offer protection from catching the flu. Everyone 6 months old and older should receive a flu vaccine, according to the district.

It's especially important for the following groups of people to receive vaccinations: pregnant women, children younger than five (especially children younger than 2), people 50 or older, people of any age with certain chronic medical conditions, people who live in nursing homes, and other long-term care facilities and people who live with or care for people at high risk for complications from the flu, including health care workers, household contacts of high-risk people and out-of-home caregivers of children less than six months old, as children of that age are too young to be vaccinated.

Some people should not receive flu vaccinations without first consulting a health care provider.

People can schedule a flu shot with their health care provider or visit www.granthealth.org for a list of local flu shot providers.
