ARLEE - The Arlee girls know a thing or two about marathons.

After all, they ran the gaunlet of three games in three days and came out on top by improving their season record to .500 at 7-7.

"It was tiring," Arlee head coach Richard Bachmeier said. "It was good for us, when you get into tournaments you've got to do it."

The Scarlets started the week on Thursday against a very strong Class B team, Loyola. While the Breakers handed Arlee a 66-21 loss, a performance that Bachmeier and the girls weren't happy with, Arlee did get nine points from Mahalia Hendren.

Loyola jumped out to a 32-8 halftime lead and cruised in the second half to the win. The Scarlets would bounce back though.

Arlee took it to Victor in a 46-39 victory on the road Friday night. They took the early 13-5 lead and then went into halftime with a 27-20 advantage. The Scarlets increased their lead by four points in the third and then held on for the win.

Alexis Shick scored in double digits with 10.

"Alexis is doing really well," Bachmeier said. "She had a great scoring performance for us last week and then this week she did a good job on the boards and defensively."

Bachmeier also pointed out that now teams have to pick their poison with double-teaming Shick or star post Mahalia Hendren.

Hendren had 12 against Victor and Arlee had three other players score at least seven points.

The Scarlets then finished the weekend off with a 47-26 victory on Saturday at home. Arlee fought for a 22-16 halftime lead and extended their lead by two points in the third. Then Whitney Malatare turned on the jets in the fourth quarter.

"I think against St. Regis, they got a little tired so we turned her loose and let her run a little for those layups," Bachmeier said.

Malatare, who has more energy than Kerr Dam, got the green light and ran into several one-on-one and one-on-two situations. The result? Eight points for her in the fourth and a 19-6 fourth quarter for the Scarlets.

Hendren led the team with 17 points and Arlee moved to 4-2 in the league and 7-7 overall. Not a bad weekend considering the three straight games. Again the Scarlets' deep bench paid off for them. Bachmeier had one player go down with sickness and another with a sprained ankle, but more players continued to step up to the plate.

"That was key," Bachmeier said. "We put Jenna Pablo in and she did a really good job. I like what we're doing and we're coming together and playing solid basketball for the whole game."

Arlee has another tough slate with Class B Mission on Thursday and then a very important conference matchup against Noxon.

"We're basically assured no lower than third place if we beat Noxon," Bachmeier said.

The coach also had kind words to say about the crowd that has been coming to home games for the Scarlets and showing incredible spirit.

"I really appreciate the support our fans have been giving us this season," Bachmeier said. "A big thanks to them."
