Mavis L. Potter 71, of Libby

Mavis L. Potter, 71, a long time Libby resident died Friday Jan. 27, 2012 from injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident near Troy. 

She was born Nov. 3, 1940 in Watford City, N.D., to Jesse and Marion Berntson Shelley. 

Mavis grew up and attended school in Watford City, N.D. and Whitefish, Mont.

She met Stan Potter in 1957 and the two were married on Aug. 16, 1958 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. 

Mavis and Stan made their way to Libby in 1961 and have been here ever since.  

She worked as a waitress at the Husky Restaurant. 

She enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

Mavis spent her life being a loving wife and mother. 

After the death of their son, Mavis and Stan spent their life helping others through the grieving process. 

Her son Gerald, her parents Jesse and Marion, a sister Lorraine and a brother Wayne preceded her in death.   

Survivors include her husband Stan Potter of Libby, MT; siblings Rosalie Countryman of Eureka, Mont.; Dennis Shelley and wife Cindy of Washington; Grace Bock and husband Mick of Rexford, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at the Libby Christian Church. 

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. 

Local arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby, Mont.
