Young musician winners to perform with orchestra

Eight exceptional young musicians, winners of the Coeur d'Alene Symphony's National Young Artist Competition, will perform with the orchestra March 10.
"This is a highlight of our concert season," said David Demand, Artistic Director and conductor of the orchestra. "The talent of the competitors this year was extraordinary and we anticipate an outstanding concert. The performers have selected repertoire that will display their musicianship as well as the skill of our orchestra."
The Coeur d'Alene Symphony Orchestra's annual National Young Artist Competition attracted 140 entrants from across the country and Canada.
Finalists competed Jan. 7 and 8 and the winners were selected by a jury of local professional musicians.
The winners will be playing movements from the following works:
• Nathan Lee, 10, Mozart Piano Concerto No. 27, Sammamish, Wash.
• Benjamin Roidl-Ward, 19, von Weber Andante & Rondo Ongarese (Bassoon), Tacoma, Wash.
• Kristen Choi, 24, Bellini Se Romeo t'uccise un fliglio & Thomas Me voici dans son boudoir, San Francisco.
• Fan-ya Lin, 22, Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3, Ogden, Utah.
• Jasmine Weiss, 14, Saint Saens Piano concerto No. 4, Orem, Utah.
• Nicholas Villalobos, 24, Bottesini Concerto No. 2 for String Bass, Tempe, Ariz.
• Joann Martinson (professional), Bernstein Glitter and Be Gay & Mozart Queen of the Night, Greensboro, N.C.
• Nicole Oswald, 15, Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, Tigard, Ore.
Tickets are $20 adults, $15 seniors and $8 students.
