MOSES LAKE - It was a rough night on the hardwood for the Columbia Basin Secondary (CBSS) boys basketball team Thursday as the team was blown out at home by Cascade Christian Academy (CCA) 88-47.

"Cascade Christian is a very good team," coach Rolland Hansen said. "They had a great size advantage over us and shot the ball very well."

Neither team got off to a good start as both misfired on their first possession of the game.

Eric Curtiss got the Phoenix on the board first with a long jump shot from behind the arc to put CBSS up 3-0.

The Wolverines fired back with a 3-point bucket of their own to tie the score 3-3. The teams pulled even again at 7-7, but CCA raced out to an 11-2 run to double the home team 18-9 with a little more than two minutes to play in the first quarter.

Curtiss sank 1-of-2 shots from the charity stripe to ignite a mini run to finish out the quarter to get within eight points of the Wolverines, 22-14.

CCA  knocked down the first eight points of the second quarter on the strength of back-to-back 3-pointers to take the biggest lead of the game 30-14.

The hot shooting Curtiss, sank two shots in a row from the top of the key to keep the Phoenix in the contest, 32-20.

But the Wolverines, firing on all cylinders offensively, reeled off 26 points to close out the half taking a 48-23 lead into the locker room.

The opening minutes of the third quarter saw the Phoenix miss their first four shots. However, CCA picked up where the team left off in the first half and outscored CBSS 16-10 to pull ahead 64-33.

The Wolverines continued to roll in the fourth quarter as the laid 21 more points on the Phoenix. CBSS gave it all they had,  but couldn't make up the huge disparity on the scoreboard and dropped the game 88-47.

"Our inexperience caught up with us tonight and we didn't play with the confidence we've shown over the past couple of weeks," Hansen said. "We  didn't contest their shots very well and gave them too many open looks and that was the differnce in the ball game."

Curtiss led the way for the Phoenix with 27 points. Michael Northup finished with 14.

The loss drops CBSS to 4-4 in league play and 7-8 overall.

The Phoenix are back in action Saturday when the team heads to Easton to take on the Jaguars.
