RATHDRUM - Cieana Close had 15 points, six assists and six steals to lead the Lakeland Hawks past the Sandpoint Bulldogs 59-40 in a loser-out game in the 4A Region 1 tournament Saturday night at Hawk Court.

Josie Coder scored 7 of her 10 points in the first quarter for Lakeland (13-10), which travels to Moscow for the regional title game Tuesday at Bear Den. With a win, Lakeland will travel back to Moscow for a if-necessary game. If Lakeland loses, Moscow (9-11) advances to the state 4A tournament at Timberline High in Boise.

"We did a good job of getting out of the gate early," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "I thought we executed well and forced some turnovers defensively to get it going."

Toni Tapplin had nine points and nine rebounds, and Kacie Derby had six rebounds for Lakeland, which went 4-0 vs. Sandpoint this season.

"Our kids seemed pretty focused and ready to go," Seymour said. "We're looking forward to going back to Moscow. We haven't played our best down there. We're all pretty excited to go back down there."

Lakeland is 0-3 vs. Moscow this season.

Maggie Kirscher scored 20 points for Sandpoint, which finished 8-14.

CLARK FORK - Brocklynn Thornton posted a double-double with 10 points, 10 boards and four assists, but a 19-4 first quarter proved costly as the Wampus Cats fell in nonleague action.

Celeste Komanec added eight points, and Dimi Kailang grabbed four steals, as the Wampus Cats (12-6) played the bigger Montana school evenly after the first quarter.

"We kind of faltered and gave them some easy layins. We have to get over that hump of dealing with adversity," Clark Fork coach Dexter Vogel said. "They don't have any quit in them, which is good for us. We'll get our offensive woes squared away."
