Chiefs throttle Seattle

SPOKANE - Mike Aviani scored a third-period goal to go with two earlier assists, leading the Spokane Chiefs over the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-3 on Monday in Western Hockey League play before 3,506 at the Spokane Arena.

Blake Gal, Davis Vandane and Brenden Kichton scored in the first to give the Chiefs a 3-2 lead.

After a scoreless second period, Marek Kalus and Darren Kramer scored insurance goals early in the third, before Connor Chartier and Aviani scored midway through to put the game out of reach.

Eric Williams stopped 31 of 34 shots for the Chiefs (30-16-4-3, 67 points), which host Seattle again on Friday.
