Martha Corrine (Cabbage) Purdy passed away at Four Seasons in Coeur d'Alene on Feb. 4, 2012. She was born to Dan Cabbage and Helen (Ogier) Cabbage in Montague, Mont., on Sept. 8, 1920.

When she was an infant, the family moved back to Island, Ky., and then to Stevensville, Mont., when she was 15. She graduated from Stevensville High School. After graduation she moved to Spokane with her best friend, Vera Johnson. There she worked for Safeway, where she met and fell in love with Donald Purdy. They were married in Plummer in 1946 and spent 62 wonderful years together. They decided that Coeur d'Alene was the ideal place to raise a family, so they bought a small grocery store on 10th Street.

After selling the grocery store, Mom went to work at the downtown J.C. Penney. She volunteered at the Ecumenical lunches, St. Pius funeral dinners, led Campfire and Cub Scouts groups and was very involved in her children's school and sporting activities. Mom was an amazing seamstress and crafter. She loved having nieces and nephews come and stay and even hosted niece, Colleen's Montana State basketball team overnight when they were here to play Gonzaga. Niece, Kristen, lived with them while attending North Idaho College on a track scholarship.

Mom is survived by children, Dennis, Janice and Susan of Coeur d'Alene, Don (Wendy) of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Emily (Todd) Johnson of Vancouver and Jay Purdy of San Francisco; great-grandchildren, Addison and Nicholas Johnson of Vancouver; siblings, Etta Rhea Cabbage of Texas, Gene Cabbage of Post Falls and John (Nellie) Cabbage of Gooding; sister-in-law Fern Cabbage; in-laws Dale and Marie Purdy, and Art and Dolly Purdy of Montana; and many special nieces and nephews.

Her parents; brothers, Dorus and Dan Cabbage; and sister Elouise Squires, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at St. Pius X Church. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery.

A special thanks to the wonderful people at Four Seasons who took such good care of her.

Memorials may be made to Holy Family School or the Alzheimer's Association.
