Orr hits 37 points to carry Troy past Eureka

EUREKA - Cory Orr hits six 3s, five coming in the second half, en route to a 37-point effort in leading Troy past Eureka 68-44 in the District 7B regular-season final for both teams Thursday.

Orr, averaging just over 19 points per game, scored 23 points in the final half.

Troy (12-4 overall, 6-2 conference) led 30-15 at intermission.

"Too many turnovers (in the first half)," Eureka coach Chad Dunn said.

"They played well.

"Cory hit his shots," he added.

"He was on fire."

Eureka (6-12, 4-4) was without starter Tanner Peterson (hip injury) for a second-straight game.

Ryan Holder tossed in 25 points for Eureka.

Up next for 7B teams is the district tournament.

Fourth-seed Thompson Falls hosts No. 5 Plains on Tuesday.

No. 3 Eureka plays at No. 2 Troy on Thursday.

Top-seed Bigfork hosts the Tuesday winner on Thursday.

The district championship and consolation games, boys and girls, will be played in Columbia Falls Feb. 18.

CORVALLIS - Corvallis outscored Polson 15-6 in the third period to gain some breathing room and held on for the Class A nonconference win.

Corvallis (10-5) led 35-32 heading into the final period.

Zach Camel had 17 points for Polson (7-8).

EUREKA - Eureka held Troy to just two free throws in the opening half to post an easy District 7B victory in the regular-season final for both schools.

Eureka (9-9, 6-2) led 27-2 at the break.

Eureka was led by Cassidy Morgan's 16 points.

Jordan Williams scored eight for Troy (0-16, 0-8).

PLAINS - Whitefish went on the offensive with Ashley Brewer scoring 16 points and Simone Craft 12, but it wasn't quite enough as the Class A Bulldogs lost to District 7B Plains.

Whitefish (1-14) outscored Plains (9-8) 25-17 in the final half.
