Viola Child Fletcher

Viola Child Fletcher, 96, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Friday, February 3, 2012 at the Ritzville Hospital. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Grape Drive Chapel, 925 N. Grape, with Bishop Bergeson conducting. Interment will follow at Pioneer Memorial Gardens. Friends who wish may call at Kayser's Chapel on Friday, February 10th from 5 to 7 p.m., and from 9 to 9:45 a.m., Saturday, February 11th at the Grape Drive L.D.S. Chapel. Mrs. Fletcher was born February 14, 1915 in Ogden, Utah, daughter of the late James Oscar Child and Blanche Manning Child. She was raised and educated in the Ogden, Utah area. She married Clyde Bingham Fletcher on April 10, 1934 in the L.D.S. Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. Following their marriage, they lived in Utah and later moved to Ontario, Oregon where they operated a dairy farm for six years. Upon hearing of the Columbia Basin Irrigation System opening up in Moses Lake, they purchased a farm in the Block 42 area in 1943. On February 14, 1953, Mrs. Fletcher's 38th birthday, they moved to Moses Lake where she lived most of her life. Mrs. Fletcher was an active lifelong member of the L.D.S. Church. She worked in and held many positions in the auxiliaries of the church. She and her husband served Stake Missions in Weiser, Idaho and Moses Lake, they were Temple Workers in the L.D.S. Seattle Temple, and they also worked in the L.D.S. Genealogy Extraction Program extracting German names from vital statistical records.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Keith and Bessie Fletcher, Kuna, Idaho, Donald and Janet Fletcher, Moses Lake; two daughters and sons-in-law; Yvonne and Ronald Lancaster, Herriman, Utah, Jeanette and Sidney Roberts, Layton, Utah; one brother, Donald Child, Salt Lake City, Utah; one daughter-in-law, Nanette Fletcher Hensley, Zillah, WA; 22 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and 15

great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Fletcher, in 1998 and her third son, Boyd Fletcher in 1977. Also two grandsons, Michael Fletcher and Ricky Fletcher; daughter-in-law, LaDean Fletcher; her parents, James Child and Blanche Manning Child; three sisters, Olive Phillips, Eva Moss, Norma Jackson; and two brothers, Vaun and Harold Child.
