Fathers and daughters dance

MOSES LAKE - Jason Moody was holding his daughter's hand as they came into the Moses Lake High School Commons Saturday night.
He was dressed in a suit, while his daughter wore a white shawl and a white dress. Jason said this was their second year attending the father daughter dance, and wanted to make it a tradition.
The two were part of the more than 100 couples attending the dance, which was held by the Moses Lake Choral Booster Club and aimed at raising money for the choir.
"We've got some daddies who went all out and got wrist corsages for their little ones and everything," said Crystal Snook, one of the event's organizers. "This is our third annual. It looks like it's a hit too ... It's one of those things that the little girls are going to remember forever."
Shani Law, another organizer, said they drew about 30 more couples this year than last year. The event helps pay for the choir's travel expenses, equipment and sometimes music.
"Basically, it covers functions that we don't get from school funding," she said.
The event's theme was "Enchanted Evening," and along with the dancing, children got the chance to have their picture taken with choir members dressed as Disney princesses. Fathers and daughters also had a chance to have their photo taken together.
"To me everyday dads who are willing to come and take time out of their schedules to do this, I think that's amazing," Snook said. "It's something these girls are going to remember their whole lives that they meant enough to their dads to take out for a night of dinner and dancing."
Along with the other activities, several girls sat with their fathers around tables decorating paper crowns in a nearby hallway. Brian Buckingham sat with his daughter Chloe decorating one of the crowns.
"It's something that I've done with all of my daughters," Brian said. "It's a special thing to bring them here."
Choir Director David Holloway brought his 2-year-old daughter to the dance as well, saying people have responded to the event well. He pointed out there are a lot of repeat attendees at the event.
"It's been growing steadily," he said. "Now that we have a venue we think we can open up to a lot more people ... We're hoping this really takes off."
