Kellogg's win clinches IML title for St. Maries

KELLOGG - Nick Serrano scored 19 points to lead the second-ranked (3A) Kellogg Wildcats past the Timberlake Tigers 77-54 in an Intermountain League game Tuesday at Andrews Gymnasium.
With the loss by Timberlake, St. Maries (15-4, 6-1 IML) clinches the league championship and No. 1 seed to the 3A District 1 tournament starting next Tuesday at Lakeland High in Rathdrum. Timberlake (12-6, 4-3) and Kellogg (15-4, 4-3) are now tied for second place with one game remaining each in league play. Timberlake beat Kellogg 60-57 on Dec. 17 in Spirit Lake.
"It feels good. This was a good team win," Kellogg coach Jeff Lambert said. "Timberlake is a good basketball team, but we just played as a team tonight and showed some great teamwork in the win."
Brian Cronnelly scored 14 points for Timberlake, which travels to Bonners Ferry on Thursday.
Garret Wendt added 17 points for Kellogg, which travels to Priest River on Saturday.

ST. MARIES - Austin Linnemeyer scored all seven of his points in the final quarter as the Lumberjacks edged the Timberwolves junior varsity.
With St. Maries leading 60-58 with 10 seconds remaining, Linnemeyer got an offensive rebound and was fouled, and made both free throws to put the game away.
"Any win is a good win," St. Maries coach Craig Wicks said. "We need everyone to start clicking again to get to where we need to be."
Warren Joiner had 16 points and seven rebounds for St. Maries (15-4), which hosts Bonners Ferry on Saturday.
Jacob Dahl scored 20 points and Tucker Louie-McGee added 18 for the Lake City JV.
"Those kids are athletic and move around really well," Wicks said. "They played hard. They're a tough team."
