SWIMMING

CAST at junior championships: On March 3-5, 40 Coeur d'Alene Area Swim Team competitors along with over 320 other athletes from around the Inland Empire traveled to Moscow for the annual Junior Championships.

The meet was an opportunity for younger swimmers to qualify for the season-culminating competition in two weeks, as well as gain experience in a championship-style meet.

CAST had six swimmers make their first Short Course Championship cuts at this meet, and they are now eligible to swim in two weeks in Walla Walla, Wash. Pat de Tar, Alex de Tar, Makena Smith, Josh Hudlet, Katie Yost and Tom Loftus all swam championship qualifying for the first time last weekend.

Three swimmers added more swims to their existing cuts, including Alisa Felshaw, Sara Kaitz and Marcus Rozier.

Junior Champs was the first taste of competition for six CAST athletes: Shaylee Bernhart, Cody Graves, Jonathan Larsen, Sawyer Hamm, Aidan Jones and Kessie Kozak all took the plunge at their first official meet.

CAST placed third among the 15 teams attending, and will now turn its attention to the progressively higher level meets coming up in February and March.

SELECT SOCCER

The Coeur d'Alene Sting under-10 girls (Timbers): The Timbers lost 7-2 to the Spokane United on Feb. 6 in their first footsol game at the HUB Sports Center in Liberty Lake. Chloe Miller and Lily Foster each scored once for the Timbers.

Sting U15 girls (Hogan): The Sting lost 2-0 to the Crossfire Select 96 Farzeen and tied the Tynecastle FC GU15 Saprissa 3-3 to open their spring season in the Puget Sound Premier League.
