Troy Police Chief Bob McLeod developed the Positive-Ticket Program to promote positive interaction with kids in the community.

McLeod knew the only interaction most kids ever have with the police is when they, or someone they know, has done something wrong.

Most kids know the police give tickets to people violating the law.

McLeod thought it best to reward positive behavior, rather than focus on the negative.

First it enhances awareness of safety: kids for example, are rewarded for wearing a helmet when they ride their bicycle.

When one of the officers observes a kid being safe, or doing something good for the community, the child is given a Positive Ticket.

The ticket consists of a certificate, a picture taken with the officer, and a treat such as a free game of bowling, a free movie pass or a coupon for a free ice cream.

Although the program is designed primarily for the kids, adults occasionally receive positive tickets as well.
