Disc-jockey for the VFW bar in Troy, “D.J.” Dan Savage Jr. returned home Tuesday after he was beaten after leaving Jan. 30.

“They came out of the dark,” Savage said. “That’s all I remember.”

Savage had returned to the VFW after closing to make sure his fellow employee, Summer McDonald, was OK.

Glen Johnson, longtime friend to Savage, discovered Savage’s bloodied body laying by McDonald’s car.

Savage was taken to Kalispell Medical Center because of the severity of  damage to his skull.

Savage was placed in an induced coma for several days after his admission for his protection. If not, he was combative upon consciousness.

Doctors reconstructed the left side of Savage’s face, including his left eye, ear and jaw.

“I feel really good; really no pain either,” Savage said.  “(I) might need more work on my eye at some point.”

Ordia Rollin Leaming, 26, and Dereck Joel Smith, 26, were apprehended for the attack after a Troy Town Pump employee reported two males bragging about the beating.

Positive identifications were made after law enforcement reviewed the video footage.

The suspects are in custody and have been charged with aggravated assault.
