COEUR d'ALENE - Burglars entered a secured and fenced-in lot of a Coeur d'Alene business and stole multiple reels of insulated cooper wire valued at $5,500, a police report said.

The business, located near the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Government Way, was hit some time last weekend. The business sits on the 100 block of East Poplar.

Police said somebody cut several links in the barbed-wire topped fence, allowing a portion of fence to be peeled back so the lot could be easily entered and exited.

Once inside the lot, the burglar, or burglars, walked toward the opposite end of the fenced-in area. There they targeted two storage sheds secured with padlocks, and the burglars were able to pry them open, police reported.

The perpetrators hauled off four or five reels with the insulated copper wiring, which were estimated to have a total of 5,000 to 6,000 feet of the wiring.

One of the storage sheds had some plumbing equipment, and the owner told police he didn't think any of that material had been stolen.

Sgt. Christie Wood said Thursday police have no further information about the incident.

Damage to the brackets on the two sheds was estimated at $25, and damage to the fence was estimated at $50, police said.
