PREP BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lakeland knocks out Sandpoint

RATHDRUM - Derek Bayley's short jumper with just over 1 minute remaining broke a 48-all tie, and the Lakeland Hawks went on to beat the Sandpoint Bulldogs 54-50 in a loser-out game in the 4A Region 1 boys basketball tournament Saturday night at Hawk Court.
Lakeland (5-17), which lost at home to Sandpoint 53-48 last Tuesday in the first round, travels to Moscow (11-10) for the championship game on Tuesday. Moscow advances to state with a victory; a Lakeland win forces a second title game Thursday.
Aaron Spencer scored 10 of his 14 points in the third quarter for Lakeland. Ryan Schwartz led Sandpoint (8-15) with 18 points.

Kyl McMaster had 15 rebounds for the Lumberjacks (16-4, 7-1 IML), who play the winner of Tuesday's game between Bonners Ferrry and Priest River on Wednesday in the semifinals of the 3A District 1 tournament.
