Pistol for tattoo deal goes bust

COEUR d'ALENE - A man allegedly tried to swap a stolen pistol for some body art at a tattoo studio on the 1500 block of East Sherman Avenue, according to a Coeur d'Alene police report.
A man described as white, about 25 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a skinny build and shaved head, appearing "clean cut," strolled into the tattoo studio at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
He offered a pistol for some tattoo work. Someone at the studio agreed to the deal.
But first, the tattoo artist insisted on making a phone call to find out whether or not the gun was stolen.
The man fled.
The tattoo artist walked next door to a homeless drop-in center to see if the suspect went there, but he wasn't found.
It turned out the gun, a Bersa brand Thunder .380-caliber, was stolen out of Bonner County. It was not loaded when recovered, but did have a magazine, police said.
Police seized the pistol and logged it into evidence.
