FEDERAL WAY - The Moses Lake High School swim and dive team experienced rough waters at the state meet over the weekend as the Chiefs finished 20th in the 4A competition.

Stadium High School from Tacoma placed first at the venue with 229 points. Moses Lake tallied 34 points for the two day event.

"We would've like to have placed higher," coach Tony St. Onge said. "But we were a young team ... not one senior in the group ... and had with no one with state meet experience."

Brenden Eslick was the only medalist for the Chiefs as he placed eighth in the 200 freestyle event with a personal best of 1:46.58. He also took 12th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.48.

The Chiefs Zach Johnston finished 18th in the individual medley (2:07.65) and 17th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:04.00. Jacob Price placed 22 in the 1-meter diving event with 97.5 points. Kaelan Connacher (51.23) took 18th in the 100 freestyle, and the 100 back stroke, finishing at 57.71.

The team of Eslick, Ben Breaky, Johnston and Connacher took 11th in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:33.32. And Eslick, Johnston, Conacher and Reid Jackson finished 14th (3:25.67)i n the 400 free relay.

"If we would've held our district times, we could've finished in the top 10" St. Onge said."But our guys know what to expect now on the big stage and will be hungry to get back to state next year. And if we keep the team in tact and work hard in the off season, we should be in the top 10 next season."
