St. Maries, Kellogg to play for 3A District 1 title

RATHDRUM - Satchel Schetzle scored a game-high 26 points and had six steals to lead the top-seeded St. Maries Lumberjacks past the fourth-seeded Bonners Ferry Badgers 67-43 in a semifinal game of the 3A District 1 tournament Wednesday at Lakeland High.

St. Maries (17-4) will face Kellogg (18-4) in the championship game tonight at 8, preceded by a loser-out game between Timberlake (14-7) and Bonners Ferry (9-12) at 6.

"We came out with a full-court press in the first quarter," said St. Maries coach Craig Wicks, whose Lumberjacks built a 19-2 lead after the first quarter. "We went into coast mode in the second quarter and that didn't work out well. We made some halftime adjustments and were able to get our flow back and play a good second half."

Austin Linnemeyer added 12 points and six steals for St. Maries.

Alex Awbrey scored 13 points for Bonners Ferry.

RATHDRUM - Ryan Beggerly and Ryan McDonald scored 12 points apiece to lead the third-seeded Wildcats past the second-seed Tigers in the semifinals of the 3A District 1 tournament.

"We played well as a team," Kellogg coach Jeff Lambert said. "Everyone played really well and we had some really balanced scoring."

Kellogg stretched the advantage with a 32-16 run over the second and third quarter.

Jon Thompson scored 10 points for Timberlake.

Garret Wendt and Nick Serrano added nine points for Kellogg.
