WENATCHEE - The Moses Lake Chiefs Pee Wee Hockey team will go down in history as the first hockey team from Moses Lake to play in a tournament championship. Coaches Rick Nelson and Jeff Mullin, took their 11 and 12 year-old hockey players to the winners bracket on Monday in Wenatchee's Apple Cup Tournament.

The team had won only one game during their regular season and was seeded last in the tournament as they started their first game at noon Feb. 18.

The Chiefs made their way to the finals after defeating host team Wenatchee Blades 6-5, Seattle Sno-Kings 4-2, and tied with Kitsap 4-4 after a puck snuck by the Moses Lake goalie with just 25 seconds left to play.

Tournament MVP centers BJ Mullin and Carson Pesta along with defenseman Wade Guenther and goalie Coltin Morrison lead their team to the championship game on Monday at the Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee.

The Pee Wee Chiefs received the "Runner-Up" trophy at the awards ceremony, losing to the No. 1 seed Winthrop Wolverines 3-1.

This is the first ever hockey team to play in a championship game since hockey was introduced to Moses Lake in 2007.

Goalie Coltin Morrison was followed by Jacob Shank, Nathan Aronsohn, Wade Guenther, Boe Hesse, Aiden Johnson, Conner Johnson, Jonas Keller, Kameron Huberdeau, Noah Lybbert, BJ Mullin, Easton Nelson, Thomas Parham, Carson Pesta, Drake Prentice and Isaiah Zeller, as the trophy was proudly carried off the ice.

Ketrin Hemmerling and his father Cole were unable to make the tournament.
