Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 11 months AGO
HARRISON FLATS - Jake Pfeiffer had 12 points and seven rebounds as the Kootenai Warriors rallied from a 15-1 deficit after the first quarter to defeat the Clark Fork Wampus Cats 40-36 in the 1A Division II District 1 championship game on Saturday.
Kootenai (7-12) will face Carey (17-6) in the opening round of the state 1A Division II tournament on Thursday at Caldwell High at 7 p.m. PST.
"We just struggled in that first quarter," interim Kootenai coach Doug Napierala said. "Clark Fork came out playing hard. We missed some open layups and they didn't. From there, it was a grind."
Stillman Berkley scored a game-high 20 points for Clark Fork, which finishes 4-15. He also had six steals. Tristan Bristol and Axel Anderson each had eight rebounds, and Breg Boudousquie had four blocked shots.
"We came out hot ... we just let it slip away in the end," Clark Fork coach Corey Vogel said. "But it was the best effort I've seen this year. We were one play away from going to state."
"Clark Fork did a better job than us in getting to the boards in the first half," Napierala said. "We got on the boards in the second half and were able to make some things happen."
