RECALL: Yes, it's come to that
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 11 months AGO
Given the events of last Tuesday’s City Council meeting, an immediate recall campaign must be initiated against Mayor Bloem and council members Kennedy, Goodlander and McEvers. I wrote in a previous letter to the editor that the City Council needed to retract their vote of approval for the McEuen Conceptual Plan, which would necessitate bringing a modified plan back before the council that addressed the “compromise” agreed to by all council members and the mayor in last January’s meeting regarding the public advisory vote. Clearly my request fell on deaf ears.
I further stated that those voting against the public advisory vote were going to ignore us, the voters, and push us to the point of no return even though they all agreed that compromise was necessary. This was clearly evident in the last LCDC meeting where Doug Eastwood tried to push them to commit to financing the first half of the project NOW and not after all the information was available for review, or the politics sorted out.
This isn’t the first time our City Council has maneuvered around “due process” to get what they wanted when they knew the majority of the voters would turn them down.
It is also completely absurd to think the public will raise $2 million to help in the development of the baseball fields/park that was approved during this meeting, unless they fully intend to “rob” our rainy day fund like they did for the Kroc Center. We couldn’t even raise half the targeted amount of private donations for the Kroc Center during good economic times. What is Doug Eastwood smoking to think we can raise $2 million in donations in these tough economic times!
Again, we, the voting public, are being ignored and treated as if we don’t exist. They (Kennedy, Goodlander, McEvers and Mayor Bloem) feel they know what is best for us, even though a very clear message has been delivered to the contrary. They don’t know what is best for us, but we do. What is best for us, the voters, is an immediate recall campaign that will deliver the message once and for all.
