Wine Cellar is movin' on up
Nils Rosdahl | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 13 years, 1 month AGO
Yes, the Wine Cellar restaurant will no longer be in the cellar. But it will still be the Wine Cellar.
Remaining in its long-time location in the "basement" at 313 Sherman Ave. until the move in early summer, the Wine Cellar will relocate in the spaces above at 317 Sherman. Wine Cellar owners Tom and Patricia Power bought the historical building that most recently was the Icon nightclub and previously was the Brix restaurant, a department store and a furniture store.
"The relocation will give us a state-of-the-art kitchen to expand our menu choices," Tom Power said. "The additional floor space will provide us with more options for banquets, private dining, an enhanced wine club and tasting room and retail shop." The Powers also own Sunshine Minting in Coeur d'Alene.
The Powers also purchased a full liquor license from the now-closed neighboring Las Palmitas restaurant. The interior of the Wine Cellar's new location will be redesigned and renovated. And live music will be offered nightly. Check www.thewinecellarcda.com.
Sprint moves near Fred Meyer
Sprint wireless communications moved its Coeur d'Alene outlet from Neider Avenue to the Fred Meyer complex off Highway 95 this weekend. The new store is in 1,400 square feet of what formerly was Hollywood Video. Cafe Rio will open in the rest of the space in late March.
Sprint began as Brown Telephone in 1899 in Overland Park, Kan. The interesting history is at www.sprint.com. The company has 120 employees at 27 outlets in the Northwest and has three employees in Coeur d'Alene. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Phone 676-8350.
Element Dental opens Thursday
General and cosmetic dentistry for people of all ages will be offered by Dr. Rachel Fehling when she opens Element Dental at 700 Ironwood Drive (Suite 320) this Thursday. With restorative, preventative and aesthetic services, her office was in Post Falls the past five years.
Fehling graduated from Post Falls High School, North Idaho College, the University of Idaho and Oregon Health Science University. With three operatories (and room for a fourth), her office uses technology with lasers and digital x-rays to decrease radiation and offer excellent imaging.
Hours are rotating 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays. Phone 664-2160.
Hang on for these tidbits:
• The Paris Flea Market will move to 1815 N. Fourth St. (between the Hospice Thrift and Fasteners stores) April 1. The new space will be 5,800 square feet and open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Owners are Jeffrey and Robert Gagnon. Phone 659-3121.
• The Donut House on Kathleen Avenue has closed. The one at Honeysuckle and Government Way in Hayden remains open with a counter, tables and a drive-through. Phone 635-5288.
• Holding the phone to my weaker ear, I thought I heard the caller (speaking fast with a foreign accent) ask for me to continue my contribution to the Doner-Blitzen. Knowing this evident reindeer benevolent holiday society caller actually was from the Inland Northwest Donor Blood Center (not Donor-Blitzen), I gave (blood).
• Watch in late April for the Fu-Ki Japanese Steak House in Post Falls.
• 'Inoculatte' is to take coffee intravenously.
• Style note - Forget the extra digits such as in $15.00 and 5:00 p.m. unless you're adding cents or minutes. Usually "o'clock" is unnecessary.
