COEUR d'ALENE - A man who allegedly pulled off earlier brazen thefts from Walmart stores in the area made off last week with multiple laptop computers and digital book readers from the Hayden store.
According to a report by the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department, the suspect was recognized by store employees from previous alleged thefts committed at the Hayden, Post Falls and Spokane Walmarts. Store surveillance cameras caught the thief in action on Tuesday of last week.
The man, in his 30s, entered the store at 550 W. Honeysuckle Ave. at 10:15 p.m., according to the report.
Cameras showed the suspect load merchandise into his shopping cart, then wander around the store for a while.
Eventually, he made his way to the emergency door on the west side of the store.
At that point, he grabbed the electronic equipment from the cart and bolted out the fire exit door.
Just outside, a blue colored SUV was waiting for him.
He loaded the goods in the rig and they drove south from the store.
According to a store asset protection specialist, the suspect made off with two Nook Simple Touch ebook readers, valued at $100 each, and three laptop computers, valued at $300 each.
The specialist provided the sheriff's department with a copy of the store's surveillance footage, along with pictures of the suspect and the vehicle he escaped in.
A sheriff's department spokesman, Maj. Ben Wolfinger, said the suspect in these Walmart thefts is not either Michael Dyczok Sr. or his son Michael Dyczok Jr., who were busted last year for multiple Walmart burglaries in Kootenai County.
The Dyczoks used a similar burglary method, with getaway vehicles waiting outside emergency exists, for stealing merchandise, including computers.
