The Warriors Jake Johnason kisses the ball off the glass for two points in the game against the No. 1 ranked Wildcats.

SPOKANE - Derek Isaak pumped in 34 points and Colin Deyarmin added 17 to lead Almira/Coulee-Hartline (ACH) to a win over No. 1 ranked Colton High School.

The 61-55 victory over the Wildcats at the 1B Regional Tournament Friday sets up a show down with No. 2 ranked Moses Lake Christian Academy (MLCA) in the state playoffs at the Spokane Arena.

"Our guys played really well ... took away the things Colton wanted to do," coach Scott Isaak said. "They did a fantastic job of minimizing their height advantage and executed the game plan to perfection."

Colton's lineup sported two brothers Dustin and Dalton Patchen who stood over 6'5 that defended the paint and were very tough to stop at the post and guard positions on the offensive end of the court.

The game was close throughout as the teams were tied or traded leads 16 times over three quarters of action.

The Warriors took a 12-11 lead at the end of the first eight minutes of play, but trailed 31-29 at the half.

The Wildcats pushed the lead to 42-38 as time expired in the third quarter. ACH dug in on the defensive end of the court in the fourth quarter, holding Colton to 13 points, while scoring 23 of their own on the strength of three buckets from behind the arc, two by Deyarmin for the come from behind win.

"I was really proud of the way the kids played defense in the second half of the game," Isaak said. "We wanted to hold their top two scorers who average 16 points each to a combined 30 points or less and we limited them to 23."

The Wildcats got within one point with less than 40 seconds to go in the contest, but were forced to foul to conserve time on the clock. The plan backfired as Isaak iced the game from the charity stripe.

The win advanced ACH to a first round state contest against MLCA Thursday at 12:15 p.m.

The teams are no strangers to the big stage as the Warriors have been to the state playoff five out of the last six years, finishing third in 2011. The Lions, winners of 21 straight games, have been to the state playoffs two out of the last three years Duke Wood has been at the helm of the program. The team finished sixth in 2009.

"It's going to be a war," Isaak said. "Duke has an incredible knack of getting the best out of his kids ... I don't think I've ever seen a team of his get out hustled."
