Lela Bullard, 90

Lela Marie Dow Bullard passed away peacefully at the age of 90, Jan. 2, 2012, in Coeur d'Alene. She was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Knoxville, Tenn., where she attended Central High School, was President of the National Honor Society and winner of National French competition. Husband Charlie was a piano player and entertainer. They lived for a time in Jacksonville, Fla., where Lela won the women's amateur tennis championship. When they returned to Knoxville, she worked in music stores for 25 years and was the "go to" person for sheet music for musicians, teachers and music directors. She was a member of Kirk Hills Presbyterian Church.

She moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1998 and was an active member at First Presbyterian Church, where her son was pastor from 1993 to 2009. She enjoyed painting pillows, gift cards and shirts for family and friends and was an avid bridge player.

She was preceded in death by husband Charles Bullard; daughter Julie Ann Clinton; brothers Bill Dow and Sumner Dow; and sister Doris Warters. She is survived by son Mike Bullard and daughter-in-law Betsy Bullard; two grandsons, Harrison and Daniel Bullard; two granddaughters, Deborah Clinton of Tennessee and Anne Rule of Texas; sister-in-law Carole Dow of Knoxville; and nine nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, Coeur d'Alene, with Yates Funeral Home in care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 521 E. Lakeside Ave., Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814. Another service will be held later in Knoxville, Tenn., at a date to be announced. Gifts there may be made to Kirk Hills Presbyterian Church.
