EPHRATA - A motel room break-in and assault was allegedly motivated by the July shooting of Luis Martinez in Soap Lake.

Prosecutors charged Guillermo Rodriguez, 21, Centralia, and Cecilia M. Perez, 17, Lacey, with burglary in the first degree in Grant County Superior Court, according to court records. Rodriguez also faces an additional charge of unlawful possession of a firearm in the second degree.

Grant County Superior Court Judge John Knodell set Rodriguez' bail at $25,000 and Perez' bail at $10,000.

Rodriguez, Perez and a 17-year-old juvenile reportedly went to the Sage N Sand Motel in Moses Lake where four people were drinking together, according to a Moses Lake police report. The group had been drinking at the motel since about 9:30 p.m., when Rodriguez, Perez and the girl knocked on the door at about 3 a.m.

One of the victims reported looking out the window and seeing Rodriguez, so they closed the blinds and shut off the lights. As they were getting on the bed, Rodriguez or Perez kicked in the door, according to the police report.

The three reportedly attacked one of the women in the motel room. A surveillance video showed Rodriguez kicking someone, but it was not clear who was being kicked, according to the police report. The woman reported all three subjects hit her.

Perez allegedly blamed the victim for the death of Martinez, 18. Martinez was shot by an unknown person after reportedly pulling out a gun during a fight at a party, according to court records. Since the shooting, Perez has reportedly sent threatening text messages and made phone calls to the victim.

When police arrested Rodriguez, the officer reportedly found a .380 caliber handgun in the jacket Rodriguez was seen wearing in the surveillance video.

The 17-year-old juvenile is presently facing charges in juvenile court, according to court records. A decline hearing is scheduled to move the case to adult court.
