Kenneth Norman Braaten, 90 Oct. 17, 1921 - Jan. 3, 2012

Kenneth was born in Rhame, N.D., to Maria and John Braaten, he was the first son born into a family of three sisters and three brothers.

Kenneth married Eunice Phyllis Voigt on Sept. 1, 1946, in Baker, Mont. Kenneth and Eunice raised four children, Terry Kenneth Braaten, Anacortes, Wash.; Gerald Allan Braaten, Bowman, N.D.; Allan Dale Braaten, deceased; and Penny Lynn Braaten Douglass, Coeur d'Alene. Kenneth was a proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth and Eunice began their lives together in Rhame and continued their journey by moving to Coeur d'Alene in 1972. Kenneth lead a productive life in Idaho, making many good friends and enjoying time spent with friends and family.

Kenneth was a multi-talented man ranging from farming, ranching, building houses, too fine wood work including detailed miniature wagons, planes and trains. He was determined to build and give a miniature to every one of his grandchildren and he could tell you the origin and history on every wagon, plane and train.

Kenneth fought for his country in World War II aboard the USS Mullany until a Kamikaze targeted the ship. He had many fond memories of his time in the military and the men he served with.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Eunice Braaten; two sons, Terry and Gerald Braaten; his daughter, Penny Douglass and brother Marvin Braaten of Rhame.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his youngest son, Allan, in 2010 of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d'Alene. Viewing will be prior to the service at Trinity Lutheran Church.
