Richard James Gerhard, 83 1st Sergeant USMC (RET) B. Dec. 26, 1928 - Dec. 29, 2011

Richard was born in Maywood, Ill., to Harry and Emma Gerhard. He attended school in Elmwood and upon graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served 22 years until 1968, when he retired and moved to Coeur d'Alene.

In 1950 he married Kathryn Anne Walker in Elmira, N.Y., and they had five wonderful children - Rich Jr., Mike, Sherri, Matt and Chuck. He was predeceased by Kathryn in 1974 and Chuck in 2007.

From 1968 to 1980 he was employed by General Instruments, (Pendar). From 1981 until 1991 he was Chief Bailiff and Jury Commissioner for the First District Court of Idaho. Rich loved to hunt, fish, bowl and golf.

Rich is survived by his wife, Sharron Kay, whom he married in 1975; his children and two stepchildren, George and Susan; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by one brother, Joe, of Meadow Vista, Calif.
