SPOKANE, Wash. - Glacier left the mats at University High School with three individual champs, three runners-up and the team title at the Pacific Northwest Classic on Saturday.
Cooper Sipe at 145, Shane St. Onge at 160 and Mack Sutherland at 285 all went 4-0 in the two-day event to win their respective weight classes.
Finishing second were Alek Mitchell at 125, Riley Pisk at 170 and Lane Armstrong at 195.
Jake Tudahl (182) and Zach Barber (138) were fourth and Christian Knopp (120) placed sixth.
Glacier had 12 individuals competing and finished with nine placers. That gave the Wolfpack 194 points, 49 1/2 better that second-place finisher University High.
"A great tournament for the kids, they really wrestled well," Glacier coach Mark Fischer said.
"I was so proud of them.
"It was a pretty competitive group of teams, bigger schools there, that's good," Fischer added.
"The kids really wanted to represent Montana at this tournament. (To have) three champs was just amazing. They had tough matches one after another and they were solid the entire time.
"It was a great team effort."
Glacier finished second here a year ago.
Flathead wound up eighth in the 17-team field with 99 1/2 points.
Larry Francis finished first at 170 and won three of his matches by pins.
Francis was fifth last year at the Classic.
"A lot of improvement there," Flathead coach Matt Owen said.
"He looked really good. He pretty much dominated every match."
Coty Piasecki was third at 132, Jacob Egley fourth at 152, Conner Hagel sixth at 220 and Gavyn Wilson sixth at 106 for the Braves.
"Five places out of nine kids, we did really well," Owen said.
"Larry definitely had an awesome tournament. He was in the hunt for Outstanding Wrestling. He did a lot of great things.
"I am extremely satisfied," Owen added.
"I saw a lot of improvement throughout the course of the weekend. It's looks real promising going into the second half of the season."
