On the beat for new eats
Nils Rosdahl | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 13 years AGO
Readers often have said that they savor news about new restaurants/eateries so that's what I try to lead with - when I have some news. Ah, this week has nothing definite in that realm, but several clues.
1. Spies report a Mexican eatery will go where Hollywood Video used to be in the Fred Meyer complex.
2. A new owner from Texas reports she'll have a sushi and hibachi restaurant in the former Taco Time-Arby's building on Seltice Way on the east side of Post Falls.
3. News about the former Icon Restaurant space on Sherman Avenue should be released later this month.
4. And paper on the windows is hiding whatever is happening in the building labeled Pazzo's Italian Deli on Fourth Street near the Long Ear music store.
Hmmm. So there's leads for four future columns. Yea!
Cooper Fab moves on Seltice
You can't miss the new, large "Cooper Fab" flashing sign on the south side of Interstate 90.
The address of Cooper Fabrication next to Badger Lumber is 2869 E. Seltice Way. The new place tripled Cooper's former 1,500-square-foot building at 5250-A East Seltice and added parking and yard space.
"We outgrew the old location," said Aaron Cooper, who owns the 10-year-old business with his father Glenn. They do structural jobs and heavy equipment repair from truck beds to handrails, custom and specialty work, with three mobile service trucks and three employees.
Hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays by appointment. Phone 777-0114. Check www.cooperfab.com.
New Riverstone building occupied
The new, 7,000-square-foot building officially at 1745 Tilford Lane between the Riverstone Pond and the Spokane River will be fully occupied at the end of the month.
Pacinian, a haptic technology company, and Riverstone Holdings will move from their current spaces in the Riverstone 3 building on the north side of the complex.
"We design next-generation used interfaces of keyboards, touch screens and touch pads," said Pacinian spokesman Brad Telin. "We're developing the world's thinnest keyboards for ultramobile PCs. This building doubles our footprint and allows us to showcase our technology. It also has an electric car-charging station."
The three-year-old company also has locations in Spokane and San Jose. Co-founders are Jim Schlosser and Cody Peterson. Check www.pacinian.com
Spaces of 900 and 2,000 square feet will be available in the north building. Contact Casey Brazil of Kiemle & Hagood Realty at 770-2595.
Hang on for these Tidbits:
• Several downtown businesses said they had their best year ever - both the Christmas and summer seasons.
• You'd think more downtown businesses would stay open for the Art Walk evenings such as this coming Friday.
• The origin of "high falutin" (pompous) is from steamboat passengers who went through high-fluted funnels on the boats.
• A backward poet writes inverse.
