Loy leads Vikings past Bulldogs

COEUR d'ALENE - Devon Loy hit four of his five 3-pointers in the first half on the way to a game-high 19 points and Coeur d'Alene, ranked No. 4 in 5A, routed 4A Sandpoint 72-21 in nonleague boys basketball play Tuesday night at Elmer Jordan Court.

Joe Roletto scored 12 points and Ty Higbie added 11 for the Vikings (8-3).

"Loy got us off to a fast start and we executed on offense," Coeur d'Alene assistant coach Bill Hughes said. "We're stressing playing good defense and shooting at a high percentage. The key tonight was our defense and if we can ramp up our defense, it should help us against Post Falls."

Jackson Olin led Sandpoint (6-9) with eight points.

Coeur d'Alene hosts 5A No. 1 Post Falls on Friday.

RATHDRUM - Eric Cooper scored 23 points for the host 4A Hawks, who pulled within four points in the fourth quarter before coming up short against the 5A Bengals in nonleague play at Hawk Court.

"They out-sized us pretty good," Lakeland coach Dave Stockwell said. "But this was our best game, as far as battling from start to finish."

Randon Fuentes scored 23 points for Lewiston (6-7).

Lakeland (3-8) travels to Timberlake on Thursday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Bryan Smith had 14 points and five steals, and John Simon added 12 points as the Panthers downed the Warriors in nonleague play at Holy Family Catholic School.

Coeur d'Alene Charter (7-5) led 22-8 after one quarter and 37-11 at halftime.

"We utilized a little pressure, and got off to a quick start," Charter coach Brian Childs said. "This was a good team effort; this was as balanced as our scoring has been in a long time.

"I was very pleased and very happy with (post) John Simon. We don't have much of an inside presence, and this was the best game he's played this year."

Graydon Myhre and Jake Pfeiffer scored nine points each for Kootenai (4-5), which visits Wallace on Friday.

Coeur d'Alene Charter visits Mullan on Thursday.
