Florence Alice Baker Bertram, 93

Florence Alice Baker Bertram, passed away Dec. 21, 2011, in Coeur d'Alene. She was 93 years old. She was born to Ernest and Clara Baker on May 12, 1918, in Berryville, Ark. The family moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1920.

She married Leonard D. Bertram on Dec. 4, 1938. They lived in Lewiston, Walla Walla, Kennewick, Spokane, Yuma and Hayden Lake where they built their retirement home. Their last years were spent in Coeur d'Alene. They were members of the Presbyterian Church and enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing cards and going to lunch with friends. They were lifetime members of the Moose Lodge and Florence worked for the Moose Lodge in Spokane for numerous years. She was also on a bowling league for many years.

While in Yuma Florence enjoyed swimming and playing bridge when she wasn't golfing. She was known for her sewing talent, working word puzzles, her love of Hayden Lake and the activities, particularly riding in her boat around Hayden Lake. She was also a talented writer, and co-authored two books with her sister, Gladys Baker Bond.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lenny; brothers Leverette and Ralph Baker; sisters Gladys Bond and Miriam Burroughs; nephews Kim and Steven Baker.

She is survived by nieces Johanna Tanner (Rodger, Lynn and Tina) of California, Janet Boynton (Jim, Philip, Kim and Jeffery) of Pasco, Wash.; nephews Rob Burroughs (Arthur) of Pasco, Brook Bond of Boise, and Brian and Keith Baker of Texas.
