Davis scores winner for Lakeside; River City duals start today

GIRLS BASKETBALL

PLUMMER - Tah-wy-ah Davis hit a jumper with 3.6 seconds remaining to lift the Lakeside Knights past the Wallace Miners 41-40 in a North Star League game on Thursday night.

With Lakeside trailing by four points with 29 seconds remaining, Brianna Louie hit a 3-pointer to pull the Knights within 40-39.

"We've got to play each other two more times to see who goes to state," Lakeside coach Ron Miller said. "We've split so far (Wallace winning 51-35 in the title game of the North Star League tournament), but we know each other well. Tonight just went in bursts. It was a fun high school basketball game."

The teams meet again in league play Feb. 3 at Wallace.

Shannon Miller had eight points and eight rebounds for Lakeside (4-7, 2-1 NSL), which faces North Idaho Christian on Saturday at Canfield Middle School.

Mackenzie Dire scored 15 points for Wallace (6-8, 1-2), which travels to Clark Fork on Saturday.

SPIRIT LAKE - Brian Cronnelly scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Tigers past the Hawks in a nonleague game.

"I thought our defense was solid throughout," Timberlake coach Tony Hanna said. "We controlled the boards in the first half, but Lakeland hung around. They had it down to four points in the fourth quarter, but we hit our free throws down the stretch to seal the game."

John Hayden scored 10 points for Timberlake (8-4), which travels to Priest River for the Battle for the Buck game Saturday.

Eric Cooper scored 16 points for Lakeland (3-9), which travels to Moscow on Saturday.

Trojans sweep in River City tuneup

POST FALLS - The Post Falls Trojans geared up for their annual River City Duals with wins over the Priest River Spartans and Capital Eagles in nonleague duals at The Arena.

Against Priest River, Post Falls had 10 pins in a 72-9 win over the Spartans, then had eight in a 62-22 win over Capital.

Drake Foster (106 pounds), James Ost (145), Tyler Booth (152) and Austin Wilson (160) won by pinfall in each dual for Post Falls.

The 24-team River City Duals begin today at 3 p.m. at The Arena. Saturday's championship dual is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
