Priest River rolls past Timberlake in Buck game

PRIEST RIVER - Liz Halcro hit 8 of 10 shots and scored a game-high 18 points for Priest River, which took a 55-25 win over Timberlake in an Intermountain League game Saturday night.
Halcro added six rebounds and five blocks in the annual Battle of the Buck spirit game between the two schools.
Jill Weimer recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans (9-4, 3-0 IML), who host Sandpoint on Thursday.
"This was our best energy game we've had all year," Priest River coach Gary Stewart said, adding that he loved his team's, "energy and tenacity" all the way through four quarters.
Kara Wenstrom scored nine points to lead Timberlake (6-7, 2-3 IML).
"It always comes into play," Tigers coach Matt Miller said about the added energy of the spirit game. "That's not a valid excuse though and you have to give it to Priest River. They played great and did what they wanted to do the entire game."
Timberlake travels to St. Maries on Tuesday.

MOSCOW - Down 21-9 at the half, the Hawks got back into the game with a 16-point third quarter before falling to the Bears in 4A Inland Empire League play at Bear Den.
"It was pretty woeful shooting performance in the first half," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "We did a good job of getting back in the game, but our shooting percentage for the game was in the teens.
"Girls that usually knock down shots didn't tonight, and we didn't start moving without the ball until the second half."
Darby Murray and Keelani Duffey each finished with eight points and Toni Tapplin added six and 12 rebounds for the Hawks (9-8, 1-2 IEL), who host Post Falls in the Prairie Pig game on Friday.
Taylor Anderson scored 11 points to lead the Bears (8-9, 4-0), who wrapped up the league title and the No. 1 seed to the 4A Region 1 tournament with the win.

KELLOGG - Sophomore Kelsey Carter had 15 points and five rebounds as the Wildcats downed the Lumberjacks in Intermountain League play at Andrews Gymnasium.
Taylor Sheppard added 11 points and five rebounds, and Lauren Cooper had eight points and six boards for Kellogg (9-6, 1-2 IML), which plays host to Bonners Ferry on Tuesday.
"Our bigs took care of the boards and got the putbacks and got the free throws," Kellogg coach Patty Hoeck said. "St. Maries went right after it with their bigs; it was kind of a battle."
Kaytrin Thaut scored 13 points, Dusti Huddleston 11 for St. Maries (4-8, 0-3), which hosts Timberlake on Tuesday.

HARRISON FLATS - Kirsten Scheffelmaier had 10 points, 16 rebounds and four assists as the host Warriors overcame a scoreless first quarter to beat the Trojan freshman team.
"We came out flat-footed; we woke up in the second quarter, started flying around to the ball," Kootenai coach Mike LaFountaine said. "That was our best second half of basketball this year, the way we executed breaking the press."
Kendall Walton added 10 points for Kootenai (3-9), which plays host to Wallace on Tuesday.
Jessica Scott scored 10 points to lead the Post Falls freshmen.
