Answering the call

COEUR d'ALENE - Cory Howard hadn't planned to open his auto repair shop for a few more weeks.

But once the signs went up and the phone was connected, the calls came in.

Howard opened "Save More Automotive" at 1425 E. Sherman Ave. on Jan. 2. The shop works on everything from brakes to transmissions to fuel pumps.

"The phone started ringing like crazy, so I ended up just going with it," said the 2005 Lake City High School graduate.

Howard grew up learning the auto repair business from his father, Ron Howard, who still operates Save More Automotive in Spokane.

He said his father is a "blue collar guy" who taught him everything he knew about cars, trucks and how to keep them running their best.

"Now, I'm teaching him," Howard added, noting that his shop has the latest in diagnostic equipment to figure out the problem once the "check engine" light pops on.

"Sometimes he calls me about that stuff," Howard said, laughing.

"Save More Automotive" is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Howard employs one.
