Prep basketball Anderson fuels Post Falls victory
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years AGO
LEWISTON - Seth Anderson had a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the top-ranked Post Falls Trojans past the Lewiston Bengals 67-58 in a 5A Inland Empire League game at Booth Hall on Tuesday night.
"As we've learned, it's hard to win on the road in the IEL," said Post Falls coach Mike McLean, whose Trojans lost at Lake City and Coeur d'Alene last week. "We feel good to come out of here with a win."
Luke Thoreson had 16 points and four steals and Marcus Colbert had 10 points and five assists for Post Falls (12-2, 2-2 5A IEL), which travels to Lakeland for the Prairie Pig game on Friday.
"I thought in the third quarter, we quit gambling as much defensively and made (Sam) Heitzman work for his shots," McLean said. "We executed defensively, but didn't finish possessions in the first half. Seth played a great game and they just didn't have an answer for him tonight."
Heitzman had 19 points and Randon Fuentes added 17 for Lewiston (6-9, 0-4), which hosts Lake City on Friday.

RATHDRUM — The host Hawks used what assistant coach Bill Ryan termed a “deliberate” style in hopes of pulling off the upset, but the Vikings scored the game’s final nine points after Lakeland pulled within two with 2:30 left in the nonleague game at Hawk Court.
Eric Cooper grabbed a loose ball and fed Derek Bayley for a layup to pull 4A Lakeland (3-11) within 25-23. But Deon Watson answered with an inside basket for 5A Coeur d’Alene (10-3), and the Vikings finished the game on a 9-0 run.
“We had a game plan to try to take care of the ball on offense, make sure we got a good shot every time down the floor, make them chase us and keep the ball out of their hands,” Ryan said.
Joe Roletto and Ty Higbie scored nine points each for Coeur d’Alene. Chad Chalich, out since football season with a broken foot, scored one point in his first-game action of basketball season.
Adam Black led Lakeland with nine points.
On Friday, Coeur d’Alene travels to Moscow, and Lakeland hosts Post Falls in the annual Prairie Pig spirit game.
