Reported drug stash was really a cache

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a Whitefish Stage Road resident in Kalispell who believed they had just seen a drug deal. When officers responded, they found a pill bottle screwed into a block of wood, but though there had been a “transaction” of sorts, it was not a drug deal. The bottle contained a log for geocaching, a “treasure hunt” type game in which players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices.

A resident of Flathead Drive in Evergreen reported he saw a man wearing dark clothing going through his van and truck before leaving in a white car. Nothing was missing from the vehicles.

Several storage units were reported burglarized on Montclair Drive in Evergreen.

An iPod and a cell phone were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Dover Drive in Evergreen, where three other vehicles were reported ransacked.

Batteries were reported stolen from two vehicles on East Oregon Street in Kalispell.

An oxygen tank and a GPS unit were reported stolen from a vehicle on North Somers Road in Kalispell, where cash was reported stolen from another vehicle.

A resident of U.S. 2 West in Kalispell reported his paycheck was stolen from his mailbox and the thief forged his signature and cashed it at a bank on Main Street.

Several items were reported stolen from a hotel on Montclair Drive in Evergreen.

Several items were reported stolen from a vehicle on Montana 35 in Evergreen.

A theft was reported on Amdahl Lane in Creston.


The Kalispell Police Department received a report of an assault on Eighth Avenue East North. Supposedly a man threw pots and plates at another person. No charges were filed by the victim.

A resident of Third Avenue East reported someone tampered with his door, attempting to get inside.

It was reported that a Caucasian man between the ages of 18 and 22 wearing a black jacket and a black hat stole a car stereo from a store on Hutton Ranch Road.

A wallet was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle on River View Drive.

Change was reported stolen from a vehicle on Sixth Avenue West.

It was reported that someone rifled through the glove compartment of a vehicle on Mountain Park Lane.


The Whitefish Police Department received a report of theft on Spokane Avenue.

A theft was reported on Baker Avenue.


The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident of partner or family member assault on U.S. 93.
