Roberts takes second at Jug Beck tourney

Columbia Falls High School freshman Shonn Roberts shined at the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic wrestling tournament in Missoula last week.
The 98-pounder took second at the Jan. 14 event, which pits wrestlers from across Montana, Idaho and Washington, regardless of school class.
Roberts lost by a 5-2 decision to Vito Degidio, of Bozeman, in the championship round.
Roberts pinned Anthony Price, of Coeur d'Alene, in the quarterfinals on Jan. 13 to make it to Saturday's competition. In the semifinals, he took down Jarren Komac, of Great Falls, 7-2 to advance to the finals.
Overall, the team took 16th place - right in the middle of the pack.
The Cats also had strong wrestling performances from Kohl Thompson and Jacob Babcock. Babcock took seventh at 215 pounds, and Thompson made it to the quarterfinals at 145 pounds.
On Jan. 12, the MatCats beat rival Polson 42-36 in a dual. Roberts, Josiah Osborne, Adam Richardson, Travis Province, Josh Folsom, Marcus Ross, and Babcock all won their matches.
The MatCats have a home triangular against Libby and Eureka on Thursday, Jan. 19. Matches start at 6:30 p.m.
