Shirley Ann Jenkin, 77

Born Aug. 14, 1934, in Omak, Wash., passed to our Lord Jan. 14, 2012, at Spokane Hospice House.
She graduated from Omak High School in 1952, entering WSC (now WSU) the next fall for their nursing program. Her nursing classes were in the old St. Lukes Hospital where she learned to love the city of Spokane. She graduated from WSC with an RN degree in 1956.
She practiced as a camp nurse and then an office nurse for Dr. Kells until 1958 when she started as a staff nurse in Seattle and entered the master's program at the University of Washington School of Nursing. She received her master's degree in 1961 and taught for two years at the U of W.
In 1963 she joined the faculty at Fresno State College and taught for seven years being promoted to Associate Professor. In 1969 Shirley returned to the city she loved (Spokane) to teach at the Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education, continuing there until her retirement in 1999.
Shirley loved gardening and associations with her church and its members as well as the nursing staff she worked with.
She is survived by her brother, Gary of Coulee Dam; nephew Eric and wife Stacey of Spokane Valley; and niece Nevada Whybark and husband Warner. Also Eric's son and daughter, Ryan and Kyley and Nevada's daughter, Brianna.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at St. John Orthodox Church in Post Falls.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to her church, St. Jude's Research Hospital, MS society or the Union Gospel Mission of Spokane.
