SKYWAY: A bastion for readers, writers

Thank you, Coeur d'Alene Press, for your coverage of the author visit at Skyway Elementary on Thursday, Jan. 12. I'm Deby Fredericks, one of the authors lucky enough to be invited. I've seldom been to a school where the students were so well prepared and the staff so easy to work with.

I must also thank GetLit! The Eastern Washington University literary festival organizes the Rural School Initiative, which regularly helps small elementary schools connect authors with students. The success of the visit couldn't have happened without Melissa Huggins of GetLit! and Mrs. Ackerman, the fifth-grade teacher who coordinated everything.

As I said to the students in the assembly, "Writing Rocks!" and Skyway Elementary has the beat.
