The Ferndale Fire Department responded to an animal rescue call on Kirby Lane at 9:02 a.m. Thursday, where a dog was reported to have fallen through the ice on the Swan River. By the time firefighters arrived, the dog had made it out of the river and back onto the ice. They tried to coax the dog onto the bank but did not go onto the ice to attempt a rescue, because it is against department policy to make such attempts with dogs or deer.

After firefighters left, the department received a call from a person who was at the scene saying the dog, which appeared to be fine, made it off the ice and wandered off in the direction it had originally come from.

Both had been drinking, and before deputies arrived, the man told her he was going to take a nap under the pool table. When she told him the deputies were on their way, he reportedly told her, “Bring them on.” The man agreed to stay at his brother’s home and was transported there by a deputy.
