ROYAL CITY - The long basketball season continued for the Royal girls last week as the team suffered three losses at home. But there were some good things to build on.

Wahluke 46, Royal 44

The contest against the Warriors was a real nail biter as the game went down to the wire. Unfortunately the Knights were on the short end of the score.

"In games like this it's one possession here or there that make the difference," coach Phil Daubel said. "And Wahluke got the better of us on that front."

The game was a showcase for the scoring abilities of guard Stefhany Guadarrama as she poured in 22 points in a rare double figure night for any Royal girl this season.

The Knights were hurt again at the free throw line. They made only 13 of 23 attempts.

River View 54, Royal 28

The second loss of the week was to River View. The Knights had their ups and downs. Daubel said they didn't play with the same intensity on all possessions.

Royal was led by the eight points of Kayla Smith, six of Lindsey Christensen and three each of Moriah Chistensen and Guadarrama.

Burbank 48, Royal 17

The low point last week was the offensive production in a loss to the Coyotes. The Knights had too many turnovers and too little defense.

"We let Burbank get into the paint too much," Daubel said.

Marissa Squeoch led scoring with seven points. Lindsey Christensen grabbed eight rebounds and added four points.

Royal hosts Warden Saturday and starts the second half of the South Central A Conference East next Tuesday at Mabton.
