Pair jailed in possible car crimes

Two 20-year-old Kalispell men have been arrested after allegedly entering or attempting to enter roughly 45 vehicles in Evergreen.
Deputies with the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office were called to East Evergreen Drive shortly before midnight Thursday, where they were told two suspicious men were checking doors on vehicles.
Deputies found tracks left by the two men and followed them until they located and arrested one of the men while he was walking. The other tracks were followed to a residence, where a second man was arrested.
The men were identified as Jacob Lowney and Timothy Dick.
Approximately 45 vehicles were checked by the alleged culprits, including 12 that were unlocked and entered. Those vehicles were located on East Evergreen Drive as well as Park Lane, Meadowlark Drive, Poplar Drive and Ridgewood Drive.
One of the suspects had items on him that may have been stolen from one or more of the vehicles, but deputies still are trying to identify victims.
“We’re kind of at a loss for how much we can hold them accountable for,” Flathead County Undersheriff Jordan White said.
He said it is hoped that the arrests may prove relevant to other cases.
“We have deputies working hard on that right now,” White said. “We’re hoping we can put a stop to the flurry of thefts from cars.”
Lowney and Dick are being held at the Flathead County Detention Center for criminal trespass to vehicles. Any formal charges eventually would come from the Flathead County Attorney’s Office.
